On a crisp Saturday morning, enthusiastic shouts and whoops burst out of a small brick building on the corner of Bigelow and Nichols avenue. Inside the building, a group of women, dressed in workout gear, spread out on a laminated black floor. Front and center stands Angela Borges, wearing a black top and leopard print leggings.
Loud, rhythmic music flows out of the speaker system and, following Borges’ lead, the women begin to dance. For an hour, Borges guides the women through a series of steps and combinations that makes everyone sweat. When the music stops, the women give one final cheer, and make a bee line for their water bottles.
This is Borges’ zumba class or, what she calls, “Zumba with Angela.”
